Don’t Label Us.
2 man Advantage

by Adam Carpenter Don’t Label Us.

His record company, Go-Kart, hails lead singer Spag as punk rock’s savior. Of course that’s more hype than it is legit.

Two Man Advantage is a hockey- (and alcohol-) themed punk band from New York. Their second CD, Don’t Label Us, is full of catchy songs and even higher energy, with little space to catch your breath between songs. Live, these guys are just as energetic, playing in full hockey gear. You can check them out April 6 at Legends Sports Bar in Fort Wayne. With songs like “Zamboni Driving Maniac,” “Pass the Puck,” “Lets Drink,” “H.O.C.K.E.Y.” and “Old Tyme Hockey,” I’d say it’s the perfect match, so make sure you’re there when the puck drops.

In five years, Two Man Advantage have become the premier “Beer and Hockey” punk band in America, and quite possibly the only one. Despite their Don’t Label Us suggestion, I can’t help but write the hockey-themed punk band off as no more than one big gimmick. The 17 songs on the disc sound alike, and lack the songwriting skills a fourth grader might possess as far as the lyrics go.

Entertaining CD this is not. Punk rock’s savior, no way. Entertaining live show with the full gear, you betcha! (at least for laughs.) Nonetheless, Two Man Advantage should have two minutes in the penalty box for Don’t Label Us.
