About the poll...
Whatzup mailed nominating ballots to all advertisers and writers in November 2000. Nominators could select up to three nominees in each category. Those nominees with the most votes in each category were printed on the ballot that appeared weekly in whatzup December 2000 through January 2001. Votes received during the nominating process were not counted in the final tabulation.
Nominees were restricted to artists, performers, venues and restaurants within whatzup's distribution area, which encompasses northeast and East Central Indiana.
Except for Matt Sturm's votes for Best Italian Restaurant, write-in votes for artists and performers who did not meet the category requirements were not tablulated.
Whatzup received more than 1,100 ballots by the February 1, 2000 deadline. Votes received after that date were not tabulated. Nor were votes from voters who did not follow the rules published in whatzup.
An overwhelming number of voters voted only in some of the categories. The category with the most votes recorded was Best Live Performer--Band, with 774 votes. The category with the least votes received was Best Country Music Club, with 429.
Art, music and media winners were presented with Whammy awards at whatzup's first annual Whammy Awards show Feb. 15, 2001 at Columbia Street West in Fort Wayne.
Over 600 people attended the event. Our thanks to all the presenters and performers who participated in the event.
