It was another big year for Brother. With three Whammy wins (Best Metal/Hard Rock Performer, Best Rock/Cover Performer and Best Live Performer/Band), the closing set at the 2010 Down The Line concert and a grueling schedule that keeps the band busy every weekend, Brother have become a rock n' roll behemoth. Consider this: 1,600 Facebook "Likes," 110 shows a year, eight Whammy awards, four members, three names, two actual brothers, one kick-ass band. Brother -- Mark Magdich on bass and lead vocals, Mike Magdich on drums and vocals, Mike Campbell, lead guitar and vocals, and Chris Biciste, lead guitar and vocals -- have found more than a niche in the live-band market in Northeast Indiana; they have created a brand, the brand of Brother. A typical weekend finds Brother taking over a venue for Friday and Saturday night. Few if any other bands have that cachet. At Skip's in Angola, Brother own two weekends a month. That's four nights, to you and me, four nights of the best rock covers around. To hear Brother slash into a Journey tune, or something by Queen or Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith, is to take a trip into the heart of what makes classic rock classic. The riffs, the harmonies, the gut-pounding backbeat, the crispy guitar solos, the confusing yet endearing lyrics. That's what makes rock fans drop to their knees and flick their Bics. That's what Brother deliver. The Brother motto is "It's all about the music." But it's about more than that. It's about their fans as well. Emotions run high between Brother and their fans. And without the connection to their fans, the guys in Brother would be just another cover band, no matter how talented they may be. It's like Mike Campbell said after accepting one of the band's three Whammy's: "Brother fans are the best fans to have as fans." A little confusing perhaps, but endearing nonetheless. And there's no doubt the family of Brother fans understand. (Mark Hunter) |
