It's an encore for Mary Jane who took home her second Whammy in a row for the town's Favorite Radio Personality. "This award is about you," she told the crowd, just before she dropped it on the floor and the glass shattered at her feet. "Oh sorry. I just got off work. I'm still in work mode, but I'm really grateful." The hard-working woman had, up until Monday, acted as the afternoon jock at 98.9 The Bear. She was unexpectedly let go after two years on the job and said she's not sure what she's going to do now. "Maybe I'll move somewhere nice," she said. "I'm thinking about the beach. I really don't know." Her plans will probably include trying to stay in radio because she said her work as a DJ gave her a new sense of the power the medium has to touch the people who tune in every day. "I always wanted to help people, and I never thought that becoming a radio host would be the way to do it, but now I keep hearing from people who say that I've changed their life, and it's really amazing," she said. "Just last week a guy came up to me and told me I helped him get through chemo. That was pretty wonderful." In her role at the Bear, Mary Jane always made a point of supporting the local music scene, getting as many homegrown acts on her show as possible, and she said the scene is as vibrant as it gets. "I try to see a new band every weekend," she said. "I'm amazed by the talent you see in this town, and it's really our duty to get out there and show them some support." So what can Fort Wayne expect from Mary Jane now that she's a free agent? "I haven't had a lot of time to ponder my future yet, but I guess I can say this. Anything is possible," she said.
