“The greatest thing that happened to me in 2007 was getting to be the afternoon jock and making the show my own,” says Mary Jane, DJ from 98.9 the Bear and 2008 Whammy award winner for Favorite Radio Personality. “Coming in, I just wanted to bring the show up a notch and give the people more of what they wanted. I was a little worried after the Gas Man left because he had been here for four years and had a lot of loyal listeners, but I think people understand that I truly care about my listeners and want to help them in any way I can.” After winning a Whammy for the first time Mary Jane said that she would like to thank everyone who cared enough to take the time to vote for her. “From the biscuits and gravy you’ve introduced me to and all the fun times we’ve shared,” she said. “I want to thank everyone I’ve met in Fort Wayne thus far – I can’t wait to make more memories with you. Thank you for rockin’ with me and for teaching me the ropes!” As for what lays ahead, Mary Jane would like her show to continue along the same path as it traveled in 2007, while throwing in a few more road trips to outlaying communities where she feels the station can get more in tune with what is happening with rockers outside of the city. She would also like to continue her work with the TLC Breast Cancer Foundation and get even more involved in Fort Wayne’s local music scene. “There are so many amazing performers in Fort Wayne.
