Say the word "punk" to people and you'll get different reactions. From musicians you get an understanding of what punk really means as a musical genre – it's all about attitude. Tri-State Killing Spree, this year's winner of the Best Punk Performance Whammy, has a boat load of the stuff. When asked what they felt about the Whammy win, this was their response: "We have no reaction. We have won the award the last two years and don't really care. The award means nothing to us, but it's nice that our fans voted for us the last two years. We are a punk rock band and the awards and s*** like this means nothing. If we'd won or not, we want off the ballot next year to give the other posers that call themselves punk a chance to win." Tri-State Killing Spree claim to be Fort Wayne's longest running punk band with 18 years of attitude spread around the area. The band consists of Kevin Roulette on lead guitar and vocals, River Haven Rod on guitar and vocals, Rose Chronic on bass and vocals, Ankenbrook Bill on lead guitar and vocals and Tim Puke on drums. Tri-State Killing Spree has one CD available, which they refer to as their "greatest hits" CD. Over the next couple of months they plan to start their next project, with tour plans for the summer being finalized. Regardless of any future plans, to these guys it's all about the fans and playing live. "Our fans rock," said Roulette. "They rip the place apart when we play, just like a punk show should be. It's not a show unless we're covered in blood. We bleed for our fans and they bleed for us." In adding to what Roulette said from stage after receiving the Whammy, he had this to say: "We're always going through changes with members and stuff like that, but we have a lot of stuff planned. We're going to be around for a long time." (John DeGroff) |
