LiveDuo

Chris Dodds, who shared the Whammy for Best Live Performer/Duo with Conley, has been involved in the local music scene for just over six years and is also no stranger to the Whammys. His former band, Go Dog Go, won Best Original Rock Performer and last year and Best Rock Performer/Covers the year before that.

Dodds is also known as a solo performer in his own right, most notably as resident performer at the Black Dog Pub every Thursday for the last four years. He and Conley have also been doing the happy hour slot at Columbia Street West on Fridays for the past year.

During his acceptance speech for the Whammy Award, he jokingly described himself as “...the superfluous nipple on the body of Mike Conley.”

All joking aside, though, Dodds was extremely flattered to have won this year. “Mike’s been a force the last couple of years, and I’m glad I wasn’t able to mess it up for him,” he said. “I really appreciate Mike. He’s given me this opportunity, and I’m really proud of him and all that he’s done. We’ve been told that we complement each other, and we always try to push each other. People like it because we try to add new material all the time. I’ll be giving Mike some crap for winning all these awards, but they’re well deserved.”

Expect to see a lot more of Chris Dodds. He and his old Go Dog Go bandmate, Matt Kelley, are planning a project for this summer involving several well known area musicians. (John DeGroff)
