Drummer Todd Harrold says he doesn’t play jazz. Nonetheless, he was voted Best Jazz Performer by whatzup readers. Last year, Harrold won in the R&B category. It seems no matter what it is he plays or doesn’t play people like it.

Harrold has been a fixture of the Fort Wayne music scene for more than a decade. Playing with a variety of lineups and configurations, Harrold is consistently recognized as one of the top drummers in the region. He is a Julliard-trained musician and spent several years touring with a band from Chicago. He came to Fort Wayne when a deal with a record company turned sour.

Since his return, he’s played with Brand New Bag and several versions of the Todd Harrold Band.

Generally, Harrold’s cache of tunes, many of which can be heard on the three CDs he has released, runs the gamut from classic rock songs such as Neil Young’s “Down By the River” to R&B standards and a well of originals. In addition to his quick, aggressive and precise drumming style, he tackles vocal duties with confidence and style.

The current incarnation of the Todd Harrold Band includes Jim Steele on keyboards, Jim Reiske on bass and Stephany Harrold’s vocals.

The Todd Harrold Band play regularly at Club Soda and Bill’s Bistro.
