Dr. Feelgood

Chris Meintel probably never expected that the need to heat his house would lead to a career as a dj/turntablist and lighting engineer under the name Dr. Feelgood. And he certainly didn’t expect to get a Whammy for his work.

Meintel’s attempt at making it as a musician seemed to be going nowhere. To top it off, his furnace died.

“I kind of fell out of being a musician, so I got into this. Actually I had someone come over to replace the furnace in my house. I had all my gear left over from being a musician. He saw it and started telling me about deejaying, and it started building from there.”

That was 25 years ago. He hasn’t looked back.

“I started hiring people and it just kind of blew up on me. I’ve been an entertainer all my life. I love the microphone.”

Meintel said he isn’t doing as much actual deejay work lately because of involvement with other things, such as working with the World Wrestling Association and doing lighting projects.

“We have a new store now also. We do a lot of computerized lighting in Fort Wayne and around the country, really.”

Meintel says he can’t see himself doing anything else.

I love being an entertainer. It’s been good to me. I do it for myself, but it’s good to have the recognition. I appreciate it.”
