Jon Hill got off to sort of a rough start on Whammy night. Running a little late coming from a church conference, it seems Hill, bass player for homeless j, forgot about that thing called the SPEED LIMIT as he made his way along State Street. Unfortunately for him, one of Fort Wayne’s finest decided to see what the hurry was.

“It was kind of hectic,” Hill said. “I was running late and just flying to get there. I was doing about 50. A cop pulled me over and I got a ticket.”

Yeah, well, you also got a Whammy, Jon, so I guess everything turned out all right.

Hill is used to running around trying to get to a place on time for a gig. A few years ago he played bass with the Channel Surfers, a band that had a contract with a minor label and a chance to tour the country. While on the road, the Warsaw native got to see all the places he might want to live. But, alas, the massive Indiana vacuum has yet to give up its hold. So, instead of taking off when the Channel Surfers gig ran out, he stayed here and hooked up with Chad Van Meter and eventually formed homeless j.

As for winning a Whammy, Hill was pleased.

“I think it’s pretty cool,” he said. “I thought someone else would get it. I know there are better bass players than me in Fort Wayne. The whole night worked out pretty well.”

A ticket is a small price to pay, I guess.
