X-Man

A good DJ is like a good airplane pilot. You want him or her to be the best at their job, but you don’t want to think about them while you’re enjoying your flight.

X-Man (Brian Strahm) understands the role of the DJ, and has worked it to perfection at Piere’s Entertainment Center for eight years. He’s there five nights a week, Fridays-Tuesdays. But the dancers on the floor below only want to know that the person in the DJ booth above them is the best he can be at what he does. whatzup readers have confirmed their opinions.

"As long as I’m having fun, they’re having fun," Strahm said. "When people hit the door, they’re ready to party."

And Strahm and his crew at Piere’s know how to scratch that itch, as well as how to scratch albums.

"At the beginning of the evening, I just want to get people up and dancing. I keep the beats slow at the beginning, then take it to higher beat music and keep it there," he said.

A graduate of Northrop High School, Strahm learned to scratch at 16, and discovered the fine art of beat mixing from a friend in the Marine Corps while the two were stationed in Saudia Arabia. After serving in the Marines and working as a DJ while in Saudi Arabia, California and Virginia, Strahm was delighted that Piere’s agreed to take him back at his old job.

"I’m 30 years old, and I want to do this as long as I can," he said.
